Noir Epices Perfume by Frederic Malle, French for “black spices”, Noir Epices is a study in the multifaceted depths of darkness, a richly textured unisex fragrance with an oriental-spicy character. This fragrance was launched in 2000 and developed by Michel Roudnitska. The accord opens with orange, geranium and rose for a bright, floral scent that leads the way into the vivid assembly of spices at the fragrance’s heart. Nutmeg and cinnamon combine with pepper and clove for a nuanced sensory experience overlaid atop a woodsy base of patchouli and sandalwood.

Though the niche fragrance house Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle was officially opened in 2000, its creator, Frederic Malle, has a longer history with perfumery. He entered the industry in 1986 at the premiere perfume lab Roure Bertrand Dupont, learning about the various aspects of perfumery from leading professionals while collaborating with other perfumers. Eventually, he gathered top perfumers to develop their own original fragrances with total creative freedom, each released with the perfumer’s name on the label instead of delegating them to staying behind the scenes.
